Imelda descends on Bermuda as Category 2 hurricane with damaging wind and waves
Hurricane Humberto, which had been racing ahead of Imelda, dissipated Wednesday after passing west of Bermuda on Tuesday. Its remnants were named Storm Amy by U.K. forecasters, who warned it would affect much of Ireland and the U.K. starting Friday.
Despite being in a rather active region for tropical activity, the country has experienced no landfalls greater than Category 3 in the modern record. Hurricane Charlie in 1951 is considered the worst natural disaster for the country during modern times.
