The government shutdown is now the second longest in the nation’s history, and federal workers missed their first full paycheck this week.

Food assistance that more than 40 million people rely on — the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP — will start to run out of money Saturday.

The largest union representing federal government employees said that "it's time to pass a clean continuing resolution and end this shutdown today," increasing pressure on Democrats to back down.
